Art & Science
There is a great deal of science around the issue of the wire resistance, capacitance etc. There are even more views, both informed and not. We have examined most of it and found positive help, encouragement & advice - but very little certainty.
We began to experiment with the structure surrounding the conductor after building pre-amps. We knew that different materials sounded very different in components & wires but gradually it dawned on us that the covering also affected the sound. For instance leaving the metal cover off transformers, and even the pre-amp itself, altered the sound.
After lots of experimentation and listening - "Do you prefer A or B" - along with research & analysis we concluded that science could take us so far & then the ears had to take over. We found that there many factors which affected the actual & the perceived sound. We also concluded that there is no "right" answer. Different people, systems, rooms & preferences all affect the perceived - no matter what the science says.
We moved on to an evaluation of conductors, sheathing, suppression, vibration and the effect of personal hearing & tastes along with equipment interaction. We selected a single range of conductors (monocrystal) & developed the structure we now use. Along the way we found that natural materials sound better to us than man-made materials and as a bonus we found ecological benefits, local crafts and a better sound.
